Palulu Button Up
Art Direction & Design
2022 for Talking Prints
Description:
Palulu Button Up was a campaign created for Talking Prints, a small ethical company that collaborates with women in rural areas of Suriname. The piece celebrated the launch of a new shirt design, patterned with illustrated palulu flowers, a bright and resilient bloom native to Suriname. I led the creative direction, design, and production of the campaign visuals, including social media assets and photoshoot art direction.
Inspiration:
The concept drew from Suriname’s vivid summer energy, sunlit colors, playful movement, and the intimacy of nature. I incorporated the palulu motif as both illustration and living element: the flowers appeared as delicate outlines across the designs and as real flowers woven into the shoot. This blending of natural and graphic textures reflected the connection between craft, culture, and environment.
Collaboration:
Working closely with the Talking Prints branding team and the campaign photographer, we designed a series that felt alive, bright, warm, and Surinamese. The visuals capture the joy of summer as it’s truly lived here: outdoors, vibrant and communal. The campaign launched across Talking Prints’ website and social media, marking a lively moment of collaboration between design, nature, and community.
